The Sheriff has the discretion to start experienced, Nevada certified officers out at higher steps then entry level.
Persons with no experience are generally started out in the jail where they are able to work and obtain the level of training needed to move to a patrol position.
Eureka County Sheriff's Office does accept lateral transfers form persons that are currently holding a Nevada POST Cat. 1 certificate. The selection process is generally oral and background check, but may also include written and/or physical agility testing.
