Welcome to the website of Eureka County's Emergency Medical Services!! On this page, you will find information regarding services available to Eureka County residents and visitors in the case of a medical or traumatic emergency, as well as the names of our highly skilled volunteers.

Eureka County has two main townsites: Eureka, which is in the Southern part of the County and the County Seat, and Crescent Valley, which is located in the Northern part of Eureka County. Due to the fact that these townsites are located on opposite ends of the County, each has its own emergency response vehicles and crew as described below.

Eureka, population 670 as of 2006, has two ground ambulances that respond to medical emergencies throughout the Southern portions of Eureka County, including Diamond Valley. This ambulance service is licensed at the Intermediate Life Support level (I.L.S.), which means that the ambulance attendants can provide many emergency medical interventions including starting IV's, giving a certain amount of emergency drugs, and using advanced airway procedures to help a patient breathe. There are currently eleven active volunteers on this staff and one paid coordinator, who also runs on the ambulance.

Crescent Valley, population 320 as of 2006, also has two ground ambulances, one located in Crescent Valley and the other located in Beowawe, which is a very small residential area about 15 miles North of Crescent Valley. This ambulance service is also licensed at the I.L.S. level and performs the same emergency procedures as the Eureka attendants. The ambulance at Beowawe primarily responds to the Eureka County I-80 corridor, and the Crescent Valley ambulance to the township and surrounding mine emergencies. There are currently thirteen volunteers and one paid attendant on this staff.

Both of these townships work in coordination with other medical facilities and agencies. Eureka is blessed with a fully staffed Medical Clinic with limited emergency abilities and is sometimes utilized by the ambulance crew in Eureka for additional aid. In additiona, Eureka can request the assistance of two main airemedical agencies based in Elko, Nevada. Typically, the airmedical agencies are utilized for patients who require rapid transport to a hospital. More stable patients are gound transported by the Eureka crew to either William Bee Ririe Hospital in Ely, Nevada, or more often, Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, located in Elko, Nevada.

Crescent Valley also has a Medical Clinic; however, this facility is utilized by residents primarily for non-emergencies and therefore, patient care is rarely coordinated with the Medical Clinic. For less stable patients, the Crescent Valley ambulance staff relies upon one main airmedical agency located in Elko, Nevada, which offers helicopter transport to the hospital in Elko. If ground transport is required, Crescent Valley transports either to Battle Mountain Hospital, in Battle Mountain, Nevada, or more often to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko, Nevada.

On the EMS website, you will find pictures of the emergency response vehicles, as well as the names of our dedicated volunteers and paid staff. Some of these attendants, as you will notice, are EMT-Basics. This means that they perform skills within the scope of practice of an EMT-Basic in the State of Nevada. Others have additional training and are licensed at the EMT-Intermediate level. These individuals are able to perform more advanced lifesaving skills. All attendants work together for the betterment of patient care.
